The current chessboxing World Champion Madhavi Gonbare will face World Vice-Champion Beatrice Desiree Furlan in London on 1st May 2025. They face each other, twice, in the last World Championships in Armenia, once in traditional chessboxing final and, also, in the chessboxing Light final. In both occasion the Indian chessboxer prevailed.
This time round the match will be out of 9 rounds with a 10th tie-break round in case the 9th finishes in a chess draw. In London the chess-rounds will last 4 minutes so, overall, it will be a different version of chessboxing the two, who fights World Championships in tournament format, are used to.
The event, called Chessboxing May Day, is organised by ChessboxingNation with Gavin Paterson and Richard Frazer. There will be five fights on the card.Chessboxing is going back to the historical venue Scala, in Kings Cross London.
The Italian ChessBoxing Federation inform us that the trainer of the Italian Team, Fernando Frattesi, will be in Beatrice’s corner and that several Milanese spectators will be going to London to watch the fight.
